The Hino Blue Ribbon City Hybrid bus trial was announced on 15 June 2017, during the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Mitsui, Medini Iskandar Malaysia (MIM), Hino Motor Sales Malaysia and Handal Indah.
The hybrid bus features the Diesel Electric hybrid system, is operated with a combination of the battery and diesel engine. In comparison with a conventional city bus powered by diesel, the Hybrid Vehicle (HV) system is said to reduce the fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emission.
This bus was built in Japan, with the full Japanese specifications. Prior to the trial in Malaysia, the same bus was trialed in Bangkok, Thailand from June 2016 to November 2016.
