BYD K9 Trial - Melaka

The BYD K9 (also known as BYD eBus) is a all-electric bus featuring the new environmentally-friendly technology from China, using 4 Lithium Iron Phosphate Batteries (also known as the BYD Fe Battery) to power the vehicle. A single charge of the batteries would allow the vehicle to travel up to 250km. A full charge with maximum power of 60kW would take about 5 hours. The batteries are rated at 324kW and capable of generating about 70-80KWh per second, with consumption of less than 100kWh per hour. The batteries could be charged around 6000 times, which could last about 16 years - if it is charged once daily. The charger, as provided by BYD, uses the three-phase system and a 7-pin plug and rated at 150A. Regenerative power are being generated whenever the brakes are applied. However, the regenerative power is insignificant as the capacity of the batteries could store a lot more energy. The Permanent Magnet Synchronous In-wheel Motor rated at 75kWh was integrated to the AC Synchronous Brushless Motor (BYDTYC90A) to enhance the performance of acceleration. The compressor could power up all the air tank operated devices such as the door, suspension, aircon and power steering etc, with 12V Alternating Current (AC). The Cooltech air-conditioner is also operated with AC. The temperature inside the bus could be felt colder even at the rear as there is no heat generated. This unit (VIN: LC06S24S3D00000002) is the first electric bus in Malaysia, costing RM1.35 million each. It was involved in several exhibitions and trials at Kuala Lumpur in the second half of 2013, before it headed to Melaka for further trials. BYD vehicles were marketed by AMDAC (M) Sdn Bhd. The trial of the electric bus in Melaka begun on 8 January 2014, under Panorama Melaka Sdn Bhd.
