Flag the bus
Raise your hand early to signal the Bus Captain to stop.
Boarding
Board from the front door. Tap your fare card on the reader, or prepare the exact cash fare.
Alighting
Press the bell once before your stop. Alight from the rear door and tap out, or you may be charged the maximum fare.
Pay the correct fare
Pay the exact fare in cash when boarding, or tap your card, device or token when boarding AND alighting. Concession cards may only be used by eligible passengers. Bus Captains and Public Transport Officials may ask you to present your card, device, token or ticket.
Follow signs and staff instructions
Comply with all signs in and on the bus, and follow reasonable instructions from the Bus Captain, Public Transport Officials, or any operator representative.
Behave in an orderly manner
Behave in an orderly and lawful manner. Do not cause nuisance or annoyance to other passengers, the Bus Captain or staff, including by causing injury, verbal abuse or obstruction.
No smoking
Smoking is not permitted onboard public buses.
Luggage and item size limit
Items brought onboard must not exceed 120 cm x 70 cm x 40 cm. Do not bring any item likely to cause inconvenience, obstruction, discomfort or injury to passengers, damage the bus or its property, or soil the bus, passengers or property.
Foldable bicycles
Up to one foldable bicycle per passenger. It must be folded, not exceed 120 cm x 70 cm x 40 cm, have its wheels covered to prevent dirt being deposited, and have protruding handlebars and pedals enclosed to minimise injury risk. Keep it folded with the longest side vertical, never leave it unattended, and do not block the aisle.
Personal mobility devices
Up to one personal mobility device per passenger. If foldable it must be folded, and it must not exceed 120 cm x 70 cm x 40 cm. Wheels must be covered, and protruding handlebars or pedals enclosed. Electric devices must be switched off immediately after boarding and kept off. Keep it folded with the longest side vertical, never leave it unattended, and do not block the aisle.
Personal mobility aids
Personal mobility aids must not exceed 120 cm in length, 70 cm in width and 150 cm in height, measured from the floor to the top of the aid or to the seated passenger's head, whichever is higher.
Strollers onboard
Do not leave strollers unattended, block the aisle, or impede other passengers. Hold on to the stroller for safety if a child is seated in it.
Strollers: no upper deck
Strollers are not permitted on the upper deck or on the stairs of double-deck buses.
No standing on the upper deck
Do not stand on the upper deck, or sit on the steps of double-deck buses.
No animals
Animals are not permitted onboard unless expressly permitted by law.
Do not misuse grab poles
Do not misuse grab poles and handgrips, such as by swinging or hanging from handgrips.
Do not distract the Bus Captain
Do not speak to the Bus Captain while the bus is moving, unless there is reasonable cause to do so.
Emergency equipment
Do not activate any emergency or safety device except for its intended purpose and in accordance with the printed instructions.
Do not damage the bus
Do not damage or deface any part of the bus.
No eating or drinking
Eating and drinking onboard are not permitted. Open drinks and containers must be tied or sealed to prevent spillage.
Keep feet off seats and fittings
Do not place feet or footwear on seats, handles, grab poles or any part of the bus other than the floor.
No littering or spitting
Do not spit, litter, or soil any fittings, equipment or property onboard.
No personal grooming
Do not carry out personal grooming onboard, including nail clipping, that may soil the bus, other passengers or property.
Clothing condition
Do not board with clothing in a condition likely to damage the bus, or cause nuisance, annoyance or injury to other passengers.
Durians
Durians may not be brought onboard unless vacuum-sealed, and must not be in a form that may cause hurt, harm or discomfort to other passengers, or damage or soil the bus.
Wheelchair bay priority
When the bus is crowded, passengers with strollers must fold their strollers and give priority to wheelchair users in the wheelchair bay.
Offer your seat
Seated passengers, especially those in priority seats, should offer their seat to those who need it more: elderly and pregnant passengers, passengers with disabilities or mobility difficulties, young children, unwell passengers, or anyone with a "May I Have a Seat Please" identifier.
One seat per passenger
When the bus is crowded with no vacant seats, do not occupy more than one seat with yourself or your belongings, or obstruct others from using other seats.
Move to the rear
When the bus is crowded, standing passengers should move as far back as possible without obstructing others from boarding or alighting.
Keep the volume down
Do not speak on the phone, converse, or operate any device at a volume that causes nuisance or inconvenience to others. Use an earpiece or headset when your device emits sound.
If you do not comply
The Bus Captain may instruct a non-compliant passenger to comply immediately, and may instruct them to alight without a fare refund if they remain non-compliant. For continued non-compliance the Bus Captain may stop operating the bus until the passenger leaves, and/or request Police assistance and stop the bus until the matter is handed over.
